1jimalexander I purchased a WIFI Only ipad recently to dedicate to the ASIAIR.
I can connect to the ASiAIR wifi with the new Ipad but the APP won't recognize it.

You didn't reveal enough details, unfortunately.

So, I will assume that you are trying to connect to the ASIAIR WiFi hotspot.

If so, the first thing you need to do is to go to iPAdOS's WiFi Settings.

For every SSID entry in the "My Networks", turn off its Auto-Join ability. (You can find that menu through the Get Info icon -- the cirumscribed "i".)

Now, connect the iPadOS's WiFi to the ASIAIR SSID.

If you don't do this (since you do not have cellular), iPadOS will try to use the best SSID (which means one that has Internet access, which ASIAIR does not have).

Your other devices have cellular to access the internet.

The way to get around this (when at home) is to switch the ASIAIR to station mode, and connect the iPad to the router -- where it can see the Internet -- instead of to the ASIAIR WiFi hotspot.

Still a bit confused. How to switch the ASIAir to station mode? In station mode, how do I connect the ipad to the router? Do I just select my Hughesnet for the ipad wifi?

First connect the iPad to the ASIAIR's HotSpot SSID. This will allow you to connect and control the ASIAIR device.

In the ASIAIR app, tap on the red WiFi icon.

You should see some menu sections, the top one is the Networks box. In it is station mode. Tap on that and ASIAIR should look for routers that it cann find. Select the router that you want and enter the router's password.

Once connected as station mode, you can now connect your iPad to the router's SSID instead of to the ASIAIR's SSID. This way, your iPad has access to the internet (and at the same time to the ASIAIR device through Station Mode).

If I do that and open the app there's a red wifi icon in the lower left of the opening screen. If I press that icon it blinks but nothing happens.

Did you give the ASIAIR app permission to use the iPadOS' Network?

iPad > Settings > (Third party App group) > ASIAIR. Turn on both Location and Local Network permissions.

All apps appear in the apps section of iOS/iPadOS settings (even some Apple created apps like Developer, GarageBand and Keynote).

ASIAIR is probably not properly installed.

See if you can uninstall it (long tap until (-) appears, and tap on the (-)).

Reboot your iPad.

Then reinstall the ASIAIR app.

I had already tried that. When I went to the App store, it gave me the option to download.
Is that what you're suggesting?
Is there a way to start anew in the App store?

Remove the ASIAIR app from your iPad.

Then reboot the iPad.

Then go to the App Store to download the app.

App store: offered "download" not "get".
Icon shows on screen.

When you ran that freshly installed ASIAIR app, it will ask you for two permissions. One is Local Network Permissions and the other is Location Services. Both of those must be set on. If you are not willing to give out those information for privacy reasons (server is in China), you need to use something else other than ASIAIR.

Remember that unless you are using Station mode, you need to connect the iPad to the ASIAIR's hotspot SSID (with password 12345678). And if the ASIAIR app still cannot find the ASIAIR device, try connect using IP address. With the iPad connected to the ASIAIR's network, use IP address 10.0.0.1.

If you are not in station mode, make sure all other WiFi routers have Auto-Join turned off. Otherwise your iPad will switch over to use a WiFI server that has Internet service.

I too was having the same problem. I do not see ASIAir listed in the settings. I removed, rebooted and down loaded it from the cloud. I turned on the ASI Air and connected wifi to it. I opened the ap and I received a new window, I don't remember what it said but I hit the mostly correct selection and it connected. I checked settings and ASIAir is still not listed in settings. I shut every thing down and restarted the Air and connected it to the wifi. It connected to the ap with no problems. It is still not listed in my settings though. Thanks for your help Chen.

I've done everything you have suggested without success.
Even though I've re-installed the app after reboot it still doesn't show in the app list in settings. It does show on the home screen.
I'm ready to give up. I'll use my original ipad for ASIAIR.

OK, there is another way to get to the privacy settings, see if your ASIAIR app is listed in there:

Launch iPoadOS Settings.

Scroll the left side of the window down to "Privacy & Security."

1) see if Location Services is available at the top of the Right pane of the window. (In spite of not having GPS, your iPad can obtain location services from WiFi.) Turn Locaion Services on if possible. If you can, ASIAIR should appear in the list below, Make sure you set it to at least "While Using." Again, only if you are willing to share your location on a Chinese server. If you are concerned about privacy, do not turn on "Precise Location," your Meridian flip will only be a few seconds off without it.

2) Go back to the Privacy & Security window. You will find Local Network as an item on the right side of the window.

Tap on Local Network, and if you see ASIAIR, turn it on.

I assumed that you have already turned off "Private Wi-Fi Address" in Wi-Fi settings, right?

You have just confirmed that there is a Build bug in ASIAIR.

If you can see the ASIAIR app in Privacy settings, but not in the Main app settings, it is usually because it is missing a settings.bundle file

They could also have explicitly asked for the app to not appear in Settings; but only an idiot or spyware would do that.

Good for you to have it running. Piss poor of ZWO to release badly built apps.

Hi Chen,

I’m having same issues with iPad (running iOS 17.5.1, which is same as my iPhone)

On iPad,

1) I’ve removed ASIAIR app
2) reboot iPad
3) installed ASIAIR (2.1.5, latest as of July 21, 2024)
4) privacy&security:location services: ASIAIR:always
5) local network : ASIAIR : on
6) Wi-Fi network: private ip address : off

My ASIAIR is wired to a small wifi extender: gl-ar300m, and that extender is connected to my home internet wifi wifi.

My ASIAIR is not in station mode.

My iPhone has no problem connecting to the ASIAIR over my home network. I can even turn off cellular on my iPhone, and just have on my wifi home network and it connects to the ASIAIR.

My phone settings are in the attached screenshot.
