AM5 Mount Payload Questions

I wonder if anyone around here uses the Askar 130PHQ with the AM5. I think the actual total weight would be more around 31 lbs, I forgot to add the doveplate and mounting rings. Should I go with an 11 lbs counterweight or would something less, around 6 or 7 lbs do?

If anyone has a similar setup with a payload between 30-32 lbs, I'd love to hear your experience with stability and guiding. I will try using the TC40 tripod with heavy rocks in the center pouch, but if it feels too light I will upgrade to a stronger tripod. Does anyone know of which aluminum tripods work with the AM5?

Hi Jerry,
Personally I own an Askar 130phq as well.
AM5(+TC40) holds it plus a 130mm ERF(more than 3 lbs), Daystar Quark and ASI432mm steady without any counterweight in EQ mode.
But I think we should consider the counterweight when we put a guide scope on 130phq.

Hey! May I ask one more question?

I have the PE200 pier on top of the TC-40. When I need to make flats is the 130PHQ going to be able to move to a full vertical position (pointed at zenith) without hitting the tripod leg? I know it's longer than my 100mm refractor.

Well, it depends in which directions your TC40 legs are.
I can make it full vertical manually even without the PE200.
Besides, the dovetail plate of the 130PHQ is quite long, we cannot make sure how much length from you camera to the DEC center. Anyway, make it short and be careful with the position of the EFW.
