Hi, I’ve just received my ASIAIR plus but there was no thumb drive, for obvious reasons, so my question is can I use any thumb drive or does it have to be one from zwo?

Of course, you can use your own USB Drive. But you need to pay attention to whether the file format of the USB Drive is supported by ASIAIR.

Hi, thanks for your reply. How do I check which thumb drive is compatible with my ASIAIR plus.

Thanks for your reply. What I don’t want to do is plug something in and cause damage. Does anyone know what size in mb does the thumb drive that comes with the ASIAIR pro is

I have used external USB storages of various sizes with ASIAIR, including a Rage 256 GB Flash Drive and Samsung T5 512 GB Solid State drive.

Caveat: I always use a powered USB Hub with ASIAIR.

denababy There is no damage - if the capacity is too big for AA to handle you won't be able to see it. That's all.

Again thanks. I have purchased a 982gb thumb drive and when it arrives I am going to plug it in to my aap and hope it works.

If you are not adding a powered hub, check to make sure that the ASIAIR has enough current capability from one of its USB ports.

The earlier ASIAIR were based on Raspberry Pis (3 and 4) and the power lines in the USB ports are protected by polyfuses (also called self-healing fuses) that reforms the connection when cooled down for a few minutes. That protected the USB ports.

ZWO has never published the specs of their own USB port design, and I am not sure if they included the polyfuses.

If not, be really careful plugging in larger memory (for example, NVMe based storage) since they do pull a lot of current.

Or, just use a powered USB hub.
