Oval stars on the screen

Last night, I had a bizarre issue.

I was in preview mode on my iPhone during my focus procedure with my AA+, SD81S and 2600MC Pro, and all the stars were very elliptical. I wondered if it was backspacing, so I removed the flattener and reducer, but no improvement. I even tried with my 585MC, but still elliptical stars.

I rebooted the AA+ and tried again - no improvement.

Someone on Cloudynights said it sounded like a scaling issue in the software, so I tried connecting with my iPad rather than iPhone, and it suddenly looked better, However, the stars were still elliptical. Thinking about it, the amount of ellipisishness was consistent with each device's aspect ratio.

I've never had this before, and this morning, when fiddling about, it looked like things were back to normal.

Can anyone fathom what was going on? Clear nights are so rare here, that to lose one through a software issue is very frustrating.

Additionally, I've just stretched that image to the correct aspect ratio for the 2600mc camera, and look....

The iOS Cocoa API has four settings for NSImageView when the NSImage is drawn on to the NSImageView that you see on the iPad display.

NSImageScaleNone, NSScaleAxesIndependently, NSImageScaleProportionatelyDown, and NSImageScaleProportionatelyUpOrDown.

The last two calls must be used to maintain the aspect ratio -- so the ASIAIR has a bug somewhere.

Furthermore, ASIAIR may be using the deprecated (old style, should no longer be used with new iOS releases) NSScaleNone, NSScaleToFit and NSScaleProportionately calls, and that could also lead to problems one day.

For the record, I've used my ASIair for three consecutive nights with both my iPhone and iPad without issue.

Hopefully it was just one of those things, but I hope you still look into it!
