Because when you capture small targets on a large camera, a smaller ROI will produce a smaller file, and thus much faster to post process (proportional to O2).
A consistent ROI will also allow calibration files to be created for the same camera.
Today, we have to run FITS images from ASIAIR through a batch processor to have all files cropped to the same ROI. With INDIGO, you can ask for any user definable ROI to be captured into a FITS file.
This has been requested multiple times, for many years now, not just by the OP -- you wouldn't think serious hobbyists would keep asking for it if it is useless. Ask Sam to check his email for the mail that I sent him a couple of years ago, and explaining why it is needed.
