Why is the hand controller required for AM5 operation on WIFI with ASIAIR? There is no use or need to have the controller plugged in, yet it is required. I don't want to take the HC into the field, since I don't need or use it, yet its required.
Foobaria i dont need one. Just plug a usb cable from the mount to the asiair.
Foobaria That's because the Wi-Fi model is in HC hardware. Maybe you can consider our new product - AM3, which is built-in a Bluetooth model. It meets your requirement of remote control without HC.
Kevin_A I might try that, but I'm trying the Wifi option which for no reason requires the hand controller.
ASIMount@ZWO Can you reprogram AM5 to not need a hand controller.
Foobaria It supports one more method to control AM5. As Kevin said, you can control AM5 by PC with ASCOM, smart devices with app and HC.
Foobaria every mount I have owned needed a connection between the mount and a laptop or mount to asiair. Just use a USB A to USB B Cable (A-Male to B-Male) and plug it into the usb2 port on the end of the asiair. They are the same as regular printer cables. Everything will work great then. Cheers!
Foobaria do not try to control everything thru the AM5 app… use the Asiair app… fyi.
Kevin_A fyi, i do not use the hand controller ever except to update firmware. I just use the asiair app on my phone and ipad…. Controls everything thru wifi. My hand controller is in the box.
