maadisotopes USB 2.0 ports) will allow for full resolution from my 178mm
USB 2 port will allow full resolution, but not full Frames Per Second (FPS).
At full resolution, the ASI178 has about 6.5 Megapixels. If you run 16 bit mode, that is about 100 megabits worth of data per frame. At best, USB 2 can handle up to 480 Mbits/second, so you can expect perhaps 4 FPS from a full frame capture. Or worse.
The larger ASIAIR (and their cameras) has problems with USB 3 interface, anyway. If you are one of the unlucky ones, you may find connection problems too to a camera (browse this forum -- you will find plenty of examples), and may have to tinker with USB cables (appears to be ZWO's recommendation to attempt to make them work; that you will find on this forum too) to find a combination of ASIAIR/cable/camera that works, assuming it can be made to work. So, you may have to end up with USB 2 interface with the camera anyway to get a reliable (but slower) USB connection.
Finally, the above is for normal asynchronous capture mode. Notice that in Video mode, ASIAIR only supports a limited (and small) number of ROI. ASIAIR Video mode does not handle full frame.
