New IMX585 mono sensor... any interest in a mono IMX585 camera?

I did not want to wait anymore, and purchased (uncooled) ASI678MM with the view to use it for EAA of nebulas and star clusters. I will be missing the larger sensor of 585.

Most of us who are members of this forum are loyal ZWO customers. We’ve waited for quite a while for an answer to the question, will ZWO produce a cooled, monochrome version on the ASI535MC? How ‘bout it?

I want this in a 1.25 inch body, so it'll be good for OAG use and solar imaging too. The 174 is way too old now and the 1.25 inch line needs a new 1.25 larger sensor model, even an IMX533 would be good in a 1.25 inch camera body format. The question is how long will ZWO take to respond to the likes of existing products from QHY and Player One. Either do this or unlock the asiair to use competitor cameras.

I'd estimate if it's being worked on right now, a demo ready for NEAF 2025, then summer release. As competitor products are already available to buy right now, they can't take too long to bring to market.

Kevin_A I'd say it depends on the price. Yes at gain 252 the camera is pretty noisy, but I have had good results at gain 100 with longer exposures. The FWC at gain 100 is about 12K. Read noise twice that of the 533 at 100 gain, but not so important with longer exposures. The DR is 11.5 at gain 100 compared to 13.5 for the 533.

So yes the 533 is a much better deep sky camera, but if a 585MM Pro can be around 60% of the price of a 533MM Pro it might be a good deal.

For ZWO: it might be nice if the HCG could be a bit lower than the 252 gain setting.

ToupTek ATR585M, QHY miniCAM8... ZWO guys, you are lagging behind the competition! Each week of delay means more and more people resigning from the ZWO ecosystem, and therefore less money for you. Hurry up with your mono 585 version, because if you wait too long, no one will buy it...

Tell me about it, I was so close to getting a QHY one, and can still have the choice to get it because if zwo decide to release one you can be sure it won't be anywhere near the price point of the competition, maybe 100+ more for no reason. This leaves me the option of ditching the asiair and getting a Touptek Astrostation, QHY Starmaster or a mini pc so I can use whatever equipment I want. I've used asiairs for years but there's only so much brand loyalty one can continue to provide.

If it is configured like their color version, no informed person would be buying a monochrome version of the IMX585 from ZWO anyway.

ZWO switches on the HCG mode at a fixed gain, and the gain is set at such a ridiculously high value (25.2 dB) that the dynamic range suffers.

QHYCCD and Touptek have better control of HCG -- the ToupTek in fact has two completely different profiles, one with HCG off, and the other with HCG on; it is like having two different cameras. Both of the companies also have some form of HDR (high dynamic range) mode, which compensates for the 585's low electron well. The ToupTek cooler also has a ∆T of 40º to 45º (Celsius scale), while the ZWO 585MC is only 35ºC.

If you wish to remain in the ZWO ecosystem, get a ASI533MM instead. If you want a monochrome 585, get a QHYCCD one, or a ToupTek one. And there will likely be more choices before long, too. (With Touptek's AstroStation/StellarVita, you will be able to choose any brand camera.)

Pretty sure it should be doable for ZWO to make the HCG point adjustable in ASIAIR for example.

Now that there is so much competition I hope they will at least consider it.
