On two consecutive nights, my guiding changed significantly using exactly the same equipment and photographing exactly the same target, with identical guiding settings.
The 1st night showed a steady RMS guiding error of 0.5-1.0 arcsec that updated every 2 sec (my setting of 2000 ms) resulting in 40 images that were nicely dithered, giving a small cropping mask in Pixinsight.
The 2nd night had the error graph updating every 0.5 sec, or faster. I achieved a similar RMS error, but the 40 images showed a steady drift in the field. Pixinsight gave up trying to register them, choosing only 10 of my 40 images to stack. I decided to persist with this abnormal guiding after trying a) stopping guiding and changing the settings within the session - to no avail, and b) closing out of the app, restarting it with my adjusted guiding settings (5000 ms, now) - again, to no avail; still updating the error graph at 0.5sec intervals.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be the problem, here? I'm suspicious that guiding might have been broken in some way (PHD and ASIair apps not interacting correctly in some way?), and may mean a reinstall of the app and/or firmware. Unfortunately, it's likely to be 4-5 days before I can test anything, but I'd appreciate any advice.
Paul.
