Does the ASIAir Pro do polar alignment in the Southern Hemisphere as easily as it does in the Northern Hemisphere? Does its plate solving capabilities allow me to be initially off by say 5 degrees, or even more (it's kinda hard to point in the right direction when there's no stars to point to).

I'm in the Southern Hemisphere. It works well.

Just make sure when you set everything up your tripod is set up pointing True South (I have an N mark on mine to line up with True South - but for some its the tripod leg that's used) and the tripod is level (use a spirit/bubble level).

Also make sure, after you have attached all of your equipment and balanced everything, you leave it in the correct physical Home position (counterweights down) BEFORE turning on the ASIAIR. This ensures the ASIAIR sets the Home position correctly when it turns on.
