Whenever I copy files from my ASIAIR I have to go through the hassle of sorting between the FITS and JPEGS that it saves in a singe lights folder. Over multiple nights this becomes quite annoying and slows down my workflow.

A simple fix would be to just add two folders (one FITS, one JPEG) inside ASIAIR > Plan > Lights.

This way we can just copy the entire fits folder instead of having to manually pick through a mix of (to me, useless) JPEGS and FITS.

Thank you for your feedback, i conveyed to our ASIAIR team.

Tech@ZWO Please also convey the option of not creating JPEG files at all. There really is no use for them so please omit creating them.

If you create your files on external flash drive or other portable drive, you can sort the folder contents by file type, select all the jpgs and delete them. I agree that it would be better if they were not created in the first place.

wvreeven I think JPEGs are used for the in-app previews, so presumably they're needed - but they should be stored separately for the majority of users who have no use for them in processing.

johnpd Of course. I usually just copy all files to my MacBook and then remove the JPEGs with a simple rm command. Glad that we agree that it would be better if they're not created at all.

oneredpanther I never use the in-app previews so for me they are not needed at all. Placing them in a separate folder would seem to be a good solution but it is a source of hidden disk usage. The last thing I'd want is my disk to fill up in the middle of an imaging session without knowing why.

We created them is because the JPG files are the thumbnails of the fits file for preview.

Tech@ZWO Yes I know but I never use the preview function. Apart from that, having the jpeg files for calibration data really doesn't make sense either. Why would one want to have a preview of hundreds of bias files or tens of darks or flats. Please allow for an option to not create the jpeg file at all. Many thanks for taking this request under consideration.

wvreeven No, they mean that the actual image on the screen of the ASIAIR is the JPEG. Like when you take an image and it pops up so you can see what you're doing. That's the JPEG.

But in any case, separate folders would be great.

oneredpanther I shoot with an ASI6200MM and the FITS files are 128 Mb. The JPEGs are MUCH smaller. Still, when I am shooting, the previews on screen take several seconds at 20+ Mb/sec to download to my tablet.

In any case, when shooting bias, darks, dark flats or flats, I think downloading a preview is useless and that should be possible to disable.
