  • Unable to update Seestar internal firmware

I installed 1.16.1 from Google Play. When connecting to the Seestar I receive a popup for a firmware update.

I am unable to update the firmware. It fails every time I attempt it.

Help!

For me too, the last update of the firmware of the Seestar (1.6.1) stops the application and the firmware's update fails. From now, I can't use my Seestar. I sent a bug report to ZWO and I am waiting for a solving.

I had the same issue. How I fixed it was to turn off station mode. Then connect via bluetooth then onto the SeeStar wifi. After that the firmware upgrade worked fine.

Here's an update on my situation.

Station Mode was off in my case.

I control the Seestar with an Android tablet which recently updated to Android 14. It appears that Android 14 is the cause of the firmware update failures.

My phone is still running Android 13 however, so I decided to connect it to the Seestar and see if the firmware update would succeed. I'm happy to report that it did! When I reconnected to the tablet, everything was normal and the latest firmware - v2.42 - was shown.

If you're having similar issues, check the Android version of your device. If it's Android 14 that's probably the reason. Hopefully ZWO will be able to find and implement a solution before the next update.

    Me, in Japan, too.
After update Seestar software , fail to update firmware.
    I don't use Station Mode.
    Select 5GHz, failed.
uninstall and re-install Seestar software, failed.
    Now I cann't use Seestar.

Mine updated last night without issues in Station Mode from an Android 14 phone (OnePlus 10 Pro 5G).

Android 11, same issue fail to update firmware

0% is displayed then the App crashes

I would like to send a log, but when I start the application, the "Update Fimeware" screen appears and I cannot do anything else.

Please explain us how to send a bug report, I see the link in the App but it crashes before I can do anything,

Hi, you may be forced to release an emergency hotfix that allow the users to suppress the firmware update.

"I would like to send a log, but when I start the application, the "Update Firmware" screen appears and I cannot do anything else. ^^"

    Same issue here.

I can't use the Seestar anymore.

The fact that the firmware update is mandatory is really not satisfactory, I missed an observation, it's regrettable.

Android 13 (Faiphone 3) : no crash but still impossible to get the firmware updated

It's done, so when we are on the end of firmware (failed) update page, with the instructions for flashing the device's power indicator light, we do OK, and there we go, don't leave the Seestar application!!!

    • in the device
    • then firmware below WIFI
    • then we are offered the update....which works!

The fact that the firmware update is mandatory is really not satisfactory, at the begining it is not required, once a lot of device are updated without any issue, you can force it, but not on the first day, please.

I followed the instructions given by Jean78 just above, I launched the firmware update but il immediately failed (Android 13)

Basically the same problem. I have the app on my android phone and 2 different rooted fire tablets and it's the same problem on all 3 devices.

I tried connecting to my computer but the problem is the same just with that annoying "connected to computer" overlay.

I also toggled the station modes as well as changing the wifi frequencies in case that was it but still no joy.

I tried using the firmware option from the menu as well but it all ends up the same ... the progress screen pops up sits at 0% for a bit then the app reverts to the home screen, after a few seconds the Update Firmware popup shows and the whole things starts again.

After this is fixed PLEASE Do NOT make updates required! I haven't had many clear nights and it's really frustrating.

It seems to be a specifically Android related issue. I'm too scared to update right now, but I use iPhone. I wonder if any of you guys with this problem would have the option to update the FW on your Seestars with an Apple device? Maybe that would get you over the line and imaging again...
