New EAF

Hello,

Last night I attached a brand new EAF to my Edge HD 8, controlled by ASIAIR Plus. When I got within close focus manually, I then switched to auto-focus, but the EAF gave me a message saying "EAF malfunction, try changing step-size. So I changed the default step-size of 20 to 30, 40 and then 10, but it didn't work and I could not use auto focus.

I also noticed that when the EAF defaulted to 6000 it stopped rotating, thinking it was at the high or low end of the focus travel. But it wasn't. I inserted a new number for where the EAF thought i was located and that resolved it. But I still could not get auto focus to work.

Are there any updated drivers for this focuser? Anybody know how I can resolve this?

i do own the EdgeHD 8“ myself. I am currently not at home so i can’t tell which step size i use. I guess (not sure) yours is set too low.

In addition, what needs to be done is to enable the reverse setting in the EAF settings in the ASIAir app. This will help you prevent mirror flop as EAF will then rotate counter-clockwise, so gravity can keep your primary mirror in place.

Also make sure to update EAF to the latest firmware, then the maximum value is not limited to 60000 anymore.

Some questions have already been answered on this forum in the past. I‘d try a search and read through the related threads.

Thanks Olli. I solved one of the problems, as I didn't realize I had to change the maximum steps to 600000 instead of 60000. That fixed one issue. I'll have to get outside on the next clear night to see if raising the step size in auto focus will solve that problem. I had another Edge HD 8 (same scope) with a ZWO EAF attached and I never changed the default step size for auto focus and it worked fine. Hmmm. I just upgraded the firmware to the latest build, maybe that will help.
