Suddenly it fails locating the Sun or the Moon

I keep hoping one of these updates will get it right with locating the Sun and Moon. I too do a compass calibartion and leveling each time, and when I goes to either the sun or the moon, it always seems to end up where the sun or moon would have been about an hour earlier. It has the right elevation, so I just need to slew to the right to find the sun or moon, but it's still frustrating. I watch it when it's trying to find the sun or moon and it goes to its initial location which is close to the actual sun/moon position, but then it slews back to the left (eastward) and starts searching slowly back to the right searching for the sun/moon, but then gives up too far east of the sun/moon. If it just started searching to the right(west) from it's initial location, it would find it. Would really like to get this fixed so that it automatically centers the sun/moon without my having to slew manually to finally get it in the field of view.

rankinsr I just experienced the exact same behavior with my scope. Originally worked fine when I received it a few days ago, but after I calibrated the compass last night, now it does exactly the same thing as you described in your post. I suppose I can sync on an object after dark, but that doesn't help me with the sun during the day.

Sorry for causing trouble, you can enter the star chart in stargazing mode, find a celestial body and perform synchronization, and then return to moon mode to automatically find the moon.

AstroImg@ZWO This technique only works at night... which is counterproductive for solar imaging.

I have had similar problems, in that the s50 found both Sun & Moon at different times during the same day, I captured AVI files of both, then endeavoured to re acquire & the S50 failed to do so, I did wonder if during the day the unit got too hot as the txt file recorded a temp of 41.75°c for the solar AVI, & 34.125° C for the lunar. I did have to reacquire both targets to capture more AVI files. Currently awaiting some reasonable weather to see if the current firmware is any better.

For Sun imaging the advise of find another celestial body is useless.

I updated the firmware yesterday. A little improvement. FInding the Sun took less time even initially drifting more than 10 degreesto the east. Not tested with the Moon yet

Hi to All!
Ich a Problem with finding Moon during Morning or Day.
I do the Compass calibration before.
Is there a Problem if the Moon is at one Side about 10° near the House Wall? It want to show me the Moon about 10° away. Sometimes it runs after a shutdown sometimes not.
I have my Seestar for 5 Days, now. Everything works nearly well. Is there a extended Manual for such Problems?
Perhaps I have to built a small Finder for Seestar....

Sorry, finding the Sun works till Yesterday, but today no Change. Yesterday I got the Update and my Evening work was running good.
But Sun today don't run. It's as written above or so. Seestar trying the Sun an are too far East and Perhaps too low to get the Sun.
I'll try in the Evening about Alignstars.
If I could see the AZ/ALT-Level and the Target-Position I could try it manually.
By this way I could send a better Errormessage to ZWO.
Hope that Problem is today only. The Sun was always centered since I bought the Seestar. The Moon was sometimes a Problem by Day, but not the Sun.
Don't want to buy a Seestar-Finder...

I've found that after the compass calibration is complete, I'll rotate the unit about 45° more ccw before locking the panning unit. It's worked for me the last couple of times. Seems to help in stargazing mode also.

Just got my Seestar several days ago and was blown away with my first-night results. My first target that day was the sun, which the telescope found easily, no problem. Last night for no particular reason, I did a compass calibration. Now today, I am have the exact same issue as rankinsr has described above. The scope worked fine until I did the compass calibration last night.

I will continue to work with the system and try calibrating again. This just happened about 30 minutes ago, so I'm still trying to figure out the solution.

Follow-up... Problem Solved...

Although the scope would not find the sun after my compass calibration yesterday, I used the system last night to acquire many objects without any issues. Thought I would try solar again today. When I turned on my system, the software prompted a version update, which I performed. Then I took the scope outside for another try at solar observation. Much to my delight, the system performed flawlessly and found the sun in about 2 minutes. AWESOME..!!

I'm still not sure what happened when I did the compass calibration and how it effected locating the sun yesterday. But now all is well. Also not sure if my observing session last night or the software update solved the issue. I'm not going to question it any further. All is well...

Using the Seestar 50 is really simple to learn and the system provides super-cool results, and I'm so happy I purchased mine.
