Tech@ZWO I'm grateful that ZWO is trying to add support for these cameras. Unfortunately, the ASIAir app is still giving the same exposure failure message when trying to take an exposure even after updating to the new version and firmware. I've tried many many different settings in the camera but nothing resolves this issue.

Still not working. Sold my ASIAIR Plus because of this. However, really need this device for a portable setup so bought a ASIAIR mini. Still doesn't work with that either with the same error. Just won't trigger an exposure. However, as mentioned above, using a cable to trigger the exposure works fine, but is a clunky and inelegant solution because it creates a situation where the cable release is pulling on the camera (the longest cable release I can find is 19" long) unless the ASIAIR is mounted to the camera, which also comes with negatives.

Tested ASIAir mini with the Sony A1 last night and had the exact same result. Won't expose without the cable release.

Yes, both cameras are set up correctly for connecting. (that manual is outdated for Sony's newer menus and naming systems, but the equivalent settings are correct).

So now with the latest release update you still haven't fixed the exposure error you get with the Sony camera's. I have the A7RV and I've done as per instructions and still am getting exposure error anytime I try to use my camera. Even though there's very few of us in this thread, many of the Astro & reddit pages are full of others saying the same thing.

Are the cameras being used on the compatibility list?

I've used the A7S mark 1 and 2 and A6400 perfectly fine, they are on the list.

I am struggling with the A7R-V too as of February 24 2025. The ASIAir won't recognize that the camera is in BULB mode, though the camera is confident is it in Bulb Mode, and I have restarted the camera.

bguthrie same here. Ive seen someone saying they managed to sort this issue out by following a video on youtube . Tutorial is about a74 abu guy claims it helped him to make 7rV working. I followed same video with no luck. Ive emailed ZWO and got reply saying asiair support a7rV . Frustrating

I can't speak for the A7RV, but I can only get my A7IV working with the Asiair plus using one of its two USB 3.0 port to my camera's USB-C, along with a shutter release cable. It does work on that one port, though.

Hey friends, I stumbled across this thread as I am having the same issue too. Im so annoyed. I just got a new ASI Air Plus and I want to use my Sony A7R V with it. They list that they support it in their software update v2.1.2: https://www.yuque.com/zwopkb/asiair/release-log#mf82H but despite this I'm getting the same "exposure failure" error message. Funny enough, I can see everything else about the camera on the ASI Air app, like battery level, ISO setting, etc.. but just cannot take a photo which is ridiculous lol.

I have a ticket open with support as of last week Ive sent them tond of pics and screenshots so ill keep y'all updated if i learn anything new. ive oretty much tried everything suggested above.

And if you check the product page - https://www.zwoastro.com/product/asiair-plus/ - and scroll down to the bottom for the list of supported cameras the Sony A7RV is listed as "Untested"

This means it's not guaranteed to work and @PMTeam@ZWO @Tech@ZWO need help with testing it and getting it working.

The fact that the ASIAIR clearly doesn't support Sony cameras, including the A7R V, despite noises that it might, has stopped me from purchasing it. Zwo, please do with this information what you will.

Hi everyone,
I recently experienced exposure failures when using my Sony A7RV with a ZWO setup (ASIAIR etc.). The camera simply didn’t take any pictures during long exposures.

After working with ZWO support (thanks again, Bean!), I was able to solve the issue — and I’d like to share what worked for me in case it helps others.

The key solutions were:
1. PC Control: Set “Save in” to “Destination (PC)” instead of “Camera + PC”
2. USB Setting: Set to “PC Remote (Multi)” instead of “PC Remote (Single)”
3. Turn off Zebra Display
4. Set “Save Image Format” to “Original”
→ This prevents issues with the image being processed in-camera or saved incorrectly.

Once I made these changes, everything started working flawlessly with ASIAIR.

Here’s the full checklist provided by ZWO support, plus my additions:

✅ 1. Disable Exposure Bracketing
✅ 2. Disable Long Exposure NR (Noise Reduction)
✅ 3. Disable Electronic Shutter
✅ 4. Disable Silent Shooting
✅ 5. Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
✅ 6. Set Camera Mode to Manual (M)
✅ 7. Use Bulb Mode (B)
✅ 8. Set Image Format to RAW
✅ 9. Insert a memory card
✅ 10. Set “Save Image Format” to “Original”
✅ 11. Set “PC Control > Save in” to “PC only”
✅ 12. Set “USB Connection” to “PC Remote (Multi)”
✅ 13. Turn off Zebra Display

If you’re having similar issues with the A7RV and ZWO, I highly recommend reviewing these settings. For me, it was mainly the PC Control “Save in” setting, the USB mode, and disabling the Zebra Display that fixed the exposure failure.
