tomstein During any of these steps, are you required to stop guiding first?
Yes, it is a good idea to stop auto-guiding before performing a GOTO, otherwise, the mount can potentially lock up. Unlike other software, ASIAIR does not know that it needs to pause guiding for you (in asked for that many years ago), so you have to remember to do it yourself.
GOTO tries to set a mount to a high speed, while autoguiding sets the mount to a very slow speed, and the mount can getm completely confused (my mount does).
In case you do lock up the mount, I have been able to free my mount (from indoors) by stopping both GOTO and guiding, and tap the arrow keys to try to move the mount in RA and declination, and at different speeds. That usually resets the speed, and GOTO can then work.
Otherwise, once it locks up, even a mount home does not work.
Would you also have to do a recalibration every time you move?
No. But it your GOTO involves a meridian flip, you will need to tell the autoguider to also flip.
What you want to do is to calibrate autoguiding within 30 degrees of the celestial equator. After that, autoguiding should work for everything that is on the same side of the Meridian.
