Hi there, I'm lucky enough to have 2 Seestars, so that over the last few imaging sessions I've been able to compare side by side performance.
It's interesting how vastly difference the performance between each device is. I can understand now, how some users have poor experiences and some have good (I realise some suffer from environmental issues) but there is proof that the inconsistent quality between devices can also be a contributing factor.
For instance 1 of my seestars will reject approx (give or take a few percent) around 50% of frames. The other seestar performs like a champion only rejecting approx (+/-) 25% of frames.
I'm in approx Bortal 4 skies.
Both these devices are:
- Side by side on the same rigid ground
- Pointing at the same object
- Focused
- No wind
- Compass calibrated
- Levelled to 0.1
- Horizon Calibration completed
- Not connected to cables
- The object is within operating limits of the Seestar
If anyone has any tips on how to improve the performance of the underperforming Seestar let me know. I'm thinking tweaks are going to have to be mechanical as clearly environmental cannot be the issue here.
