This is my first attempt at using the ASIAir Pro. When I hit the PA option (Polar Align) and then hit the circle, an image is taken on the main camera and then it thinks for 5 seconds or so. It tells me that it found starts and then says “Solving” and starts counting seconds. When it reaches some point around 60 or 90 or perhaps more, it restarts the process.
Depending upon how I set things, it can find over 1000 stars or around 120 stars. I get the lower number by decreasing the ISO to 400 (down from 3200) and decreasing the shutter time to 0.2s (instead of 2s).
The lens I’m using is a 35mm f/4.0. I know that’s pretty dark for an astrophotography lens but I’ve been told it should work.
The place I’m at is horrible. I’m in a city. Bortle 6. And I also have an obstructed view of the sky. There is maybe a 45º view of the sky. The next door neighbor’s house is blocking some and my house is blocking other parts, plus there are trees. I was hoping, just as convenience, to be able to at least verify that everything is working in my back yard before going to a more suitable site.
I’m wondering if a 35mm lens might be the problem, or is it the limited amount of visible sky, or something else?
