Definitely a reasonable choice.
However, I think your problem may have to do with your ASIAIR app settings in iOS.
In iOS Settings, scroll down until you find the ASIAIR app settings. In ASIAIR Settings, turn on Local Network access. You may also want to permit Location services if you plan on controlling a mount with ASIAIR.
Even if it works, I would still follow your original instincts, since ASIAIR is full of half-arsed documentation that will just further frustrate you in the future.
