ASIair Plus with ASI662MC ROI issues and finding a planet.

I have been using this combination on my 11" Edge on an iOptron70 mount to image Jupiter.

When focusing I actually like to do it manually and from experience with SharpCap I use video mode.
The issue with the ASIair 7 662 combo is that in video mode the ROI defaults to 480, Far too small when finding and focusing. You need a much larger ROI. But if you set a larger ROI and for whatever reason you need to go back to Preview or Focus and then go back to Video it defaults back to 480. Why?

I am now using Sharpcap as its control of exposure and gain is much better , plus I am getting a better frame rate (60+ FPS) as compared to the ASIAir of just about 10 FPS if I am lucky.

On another matter why is the ASIair so poor a finding a planet? Jupiter, Mars the Moon are always never in view when I do a goto. Much the same issues as you have and I have experienced with the Seestar50 when trying to locate the Moon or the Sun.

Fid As johnpd mentions - your FOV is way too small for plate solving to work with the ASIAIR.

If you put your equipment information into Astronomy Tools - https://astronomy.tools/calculators/field_of_view/ - it calculates your FOV as 0.11° x 0.06°

Your option is to use a different camera that will increase your FOV - such as the ASI294MC Pro which would increase the FOV to 0.39° x 0.27° (if you add in a f/6.3 Reducer this increases to 0.62° x 0.42°).

Or - as John stated - to use a guide scope and guide camera (or smaller focal length scope and with appropriate camera) that is aligned with the C11 Edge that will provide you with an appropriate FOV to be able to plate solve.

That being said - remember that you can't plate solve a Planet or the Moon.

You also need to make sure you have your equipment set up properly.

To do plate solving on the ASIAIR you need a FOV of at least .2x.2 degrees. With your set up you are below even half of that (.11x.06). You need to use a guide scope or some smaller focal length scope which is aligned with the main scope to do the plate solving.
