Warning: FOV out of range (0.2°-33°) This image may not be solved

Hi all,

I am really new to Astrophotography and to help make it easier I have bought ASIair Plus and Sky Watcher Sky Adventurer GTi. Last night was my first attempt to Polar Align.

I kept getting this error:

I read some posts that mention that certain cameras aren't suitable for PA, I've seen mentions around the degrees... I have a Canon EOS 450D and I'm not sure where to find out this information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The ASIAIR needs a minimum FOV of 0.2° x 0.2° and maximum FOV of 33° x 33° to be able to plate solve.

You don't mention what telescope/OTA you are using and if you're using an additional focal reducer/field flattener or barlow.

For example, for me, I have a Celestron C8 SCT with a Celestron f/6.3 Focal Reducer and an ASI294MC Pro camera.

If I put this into the Astronomy Tools website FOV calculator here (select Imaging Mode) - https://astronomy.tools/calculators/field_of_view/ - this comes back with calculated Filed of View of 0.86° x 0.58°

Corsair sorry I should have mentioned in the post I’m not using a telescope just a DSLR.

Corsair all resolved now. I used 100mm focal length and polar aligned first time! Thanks for comment.

Ah. Okay. So what mm lens are you using according to that table?

Also, try going into Main Camera settings and change focal length to 0. Then go to Preview Mode, take a single exposure, then tap on plate solve to see if it works. If it does make at to tap on Sync if it succeeds.

The ASIAIR will then set the main camera focal length and use what it sets.

Also, as an aside, if you're powering the mount from the power outlet on the ASIAIR, ZWO don't recommend it.

Corsair I was using 18 mm. As you can probably all tell, I am completely new to new and don't have a clue (running before I can walk). I've used a calculator and I think I should be OK with a focal length of 100mm
