Problem with AVI files out of 224MC in Regi 5

I've posted this in the camera forum. But I thought I'd post it here too, as I suspect it's more likely a software issue:

Anyone else having trouble opening AVI files from their ASI224MC in Registax 5?

I've recently carried out the free upgrade of my Windows 7 machine to Windows 10.

I don't know if that's created the problem, but I'm having issues loading my AVIs into Registax 5.

When I click on the 'Select' tab in R5 and the 'Open File' dialogue box opens, if I click on an AVI I get the text 'File Cannot be Loaded' appearing in the upper right of the dialogue box.

The strange thing is, if I load the AVI in Virtual Dub and resave it as an AVI I can open that resaved file in R5. Then, when I click on the original files (which wouldn't open) they now miraculously are fine!!!!

What's going on here?

Update:

Interestingly, Registax 5 and Explorer have no problem opening up an AVI which has been debayered during capture in FireCapture. If I record as a full colour AVI R5 is OK.

The problem is if I try to open a non-debayered file.

Like I said, if I take that file into VirtualDub and resave it (with a different name) I have no problems with that file. And strangely, after I click on this newly created AVI, the other AVIs suddenly work OK.

I used pipp to keep the object in the center and registax seemed fine with the video

R5 has problem with very big avi file

so I would suggest you use AS!2

The standard process should be to use AS!3 for stacking (click force RGGB) and than use Registax for Wavelet.

For macOS users, you can also use Lynkeos to Wavelet sharpen a stacked image.

Lynkeos can (now) also stack AVI frames (it didn't use to just a bit ago), but IMHO, AutoStakerrt! is still better at stacking than Lynkeos.

(AutoStakkert! is not native on macOS but runs under Wine emulation -- however, it is very fast on Apple Silicon.)
