What actually qualifies as a new moon. How old or new would the moon need to be. Up to 12 hours or less than 12 hours before new moon

    Glabella The moon doesn't need to be completely dark; a moon that is just a little illuminated is acceptable.

          AstroImg@ZWO I submitted an image of 3.3% illumination which is on par with others I have taken note of which were accepted. Can someone reassess.
