Hi, Seestar app keeps running in the background even after being closed, any reason for that ?
Is there a fix, been like that since last update at least.

We won't do this. The need to maintain the connection is also related to the mobile phone system. For instance, ios disconnects from seestar after going out of the background for more than a few minutes. This is not our choice and we can't change it.

So they can follow the controlling device using precise GPS coordinates & gather other PII while running in background.

Support@Seestar That does not make sense to me, it's the only app I have that does that without my permission. Needs to be fixed.

We have fixed it in V2.5. Are you using the latest version of Seestar? However, the problem that you cannot remove by sliding to close on your phone system is something we cannot handle. It is a setting on your phone system.

Support@Seestar No, this strange behavior is still there even with Android app version 2.5, the app does not close completely. This also has nothing to do with the phone, as all versions prior to 2.4 were able to be closed completely without any problems. @"Support@Seestar" : Please check and correct this. Anything else seems suspicious and would prevent me from continuing to use Seestar products.

Support@Seestar If the Android app is Closed, there is ZERO need, requirement for the app to track the controlling device since there is no connection to the scope. This is not an Android requirement since this is the only app programmed with this undesired functionality.

Hi all. Yes I reported this too some time ago and yes, for me too it still occurs with Android 15 and V2.5.

But I have found a resolution. Access APP settings for SeeStar and change battery use from Optimised to Restricted. This will terminate SeeStar app as soon as it looses focus (well after a few seconds).

Good news is that SeeStar and its APP are so well behaved - it doesn't matter a bit. S30 (S50) just keeps going and app syncs back so whatever the scope is up to quite quickly.

Do you have the permission to disable the Autostart of Seestar?

Support@Seestar No that Autostart setting is not available on any non-Chinese smart phones that I know of. The closest equivalent would be the option mentioned above to put it in restricted battery mode so it is forced to shutdown every time it loses focus for a few seconds. That's not ideal.

The point others keep making here is that the Seestar app did not used to do this, and still worked fine on same devices, so whatever reason it is running in the background now even after we've swiped the app away in Recent Apps (or used Close All) is not a requirement for normal operation, and should be disabled. We're generally distrustful of apps that just hang around running in the background after they're closed for no good reason.

How do you know that the app is still running in the background? I thought this for a while but it wasn't. There was a message next to the icon that I turned off.

pPl241iR On android you can enable Developer Options and then go to Settings - Developer Options - Running services.
Do this after you've closed all recent apps, and dismissed all notifications and you should see only core system apps, your Messaging app, maybe Maps (if you have location sharing turned on), and stuff like step trackers.
But now, the Seestar app is there too, for no good reason. It shows as running 1 service (ConnectService) with Seestar icon, and 3 processes,

Close the app and try to connect from another device. And you become a guest because the app is still running in the background on the first device and didn't close connection to seestar. You have to forcibly kill it in order to gain control from second device.

I've tested on Mac OS. It takes about 30 seconds but the seestar process does get killed. I'm unaware of how to check running processes on iOS.
