ASIAIR v2.5 Public Beta Released!

Tried the beta (2.5) for 2 nights. First night it worked well. Second night using autorun it hung with the word 'preparing' where 'shooting' would normally be. Hit pause and resume, and got an 'exposure failed' alert. Not sure what is going on... but it's a first. Have no idea what 'preparing' means . It appears after an exposure, and when the image should be downloading. Meridian flips work fine, which is a big improvement from the previous 2.4x versions I was on.

Thank you for your feedback,azskyguy. The "Preparing" stage generally refers to the process of the image being transferred from the camera to ASIAIR. We need to gather some more basic information from you.

What is the model of the camera you are using?
Are you using an iOS or Android device?
Did you upload the log after the issue occurred, and what is the log ID? If your device cannot connect to the internet, you can obtain the log by long-pressing the "ASIAIR" icon on the home screen, and then send it to the email address luffy.liu@zwoastro.com. I can assist you in further following up on the issue.

That's really frustrating, this is a feature that's been requested by so many people for years and something that other control options (like NINA) figured out across all mounts a long time ago. Whether you like it or not, the ASIAir is a device used by a lot of different people with a lot of different equipment needs that go beyond your own mounts. If you wedge people out of basic features like parking the mount by limiting that feature to only your mounts then you are simply just going to see a lot of people migrate away from your ASIAir.

Eric, I get the feeling version 2.3.3 is the end-of-the-line for anyone using non-ZWO mounts and/or larger scopes, like me.

The recent telescope show in China made quite obvious what their market is - small refractors on harmonic mounts are selling like hotcakes. It's pretty clear ZWO is not interested in fixing the issues that affect others.

PMTeam@ZWO I understand he's talking about having more than 1 guide camera, something that happens to me too. Yes, you can unplug the second, but it would be great if it can keep the last camera for the next session.

Another thing that we need more than ever since the CAA introduction is automated Flat Panels support. We should make flats before changing the angle if we want to make things right, and the lack of Flat Panels support in the ASIAir ( both hardware and planning ) force you to make the session always attended. Please, if you are not planning to launch your own flat panel, include the drivers for the most populars ( WandererCover, Gemini, DeepSkyDad, etc ) and a way to automate it at least for Plan in the ASIAir. NINA or KStars have this option and, as I said, with the CAA is really needed. Thank you.

Luxo Yes, it sure seems like they've decided to move towards a very closed off system with an emphasis on "standard" setups that various youtubers and influencers can sell/promote. Which, I guess, is working for them.

Have sent logs via email as requested. My camera is a 2600MC AIR running iOS software on a Mac. (I love that I can do this).

Also sent logs last night as it happened, but don't know the LOG ID or where it is.

Thanks very much... just noticed a new version of the beta which I just installed. Not sure what if fixes.

Thanks for revealing that "undocumented feature". Added it to the manual. In the longer term an email address like "Bug.Reports@ZWO..." would a be better idea than exposing a personal email.

Ok… which version do want tested?

NB one issue I had frequently was plate solving on Octans fails about 2 out of 3 attempts. And once it fails it never succeeds, after multiple attempts, and the only solution is to revert to 2.3.3 which solves fine on Octans.

The point being that if it can’t solve Octans, polar alignment won’t work, at which point it’s the end of the night.

Setting up I usually start with the mount within 1 degree of the south celestial pole.

So… test 2.4.4 or 2.5B ? The weather is terrible so unlikely to try before 20 December.

PS Having had a look at your logs tonight - I have had 40 years in managing major software projects for defence and control systems and your logs quite simply are far, far too simplistic - you will not find bugs with that. You need much more detail about the events and the parameters passed from every event/method/function in the code.

PMTeam@ZWO I have two different setups that I use from different locations. One location has 19.3 sqm, the other location has 20.8 sqm. When changing the gain the background always remains gray.

RLamb I like this option and think it would also be beneficial for OSC cameras using 2 dual narrowband filters (HA/OIII and SII/OII). I love this feature in autorun and find it frustrating to create multiple 5-shot plans to skip back and forth. This feature is great when shooting in less-than-ideal conditions and it keeps the good images about equal per filter.

PMTeam@ZWO sure, by between sessions I mean after powering off the ASI Air and then powering it back up — that initial screen appears where you select mount, telescope, guide scope and focal lengths. On iOS the last selected guide scope it not restored and results in me having to reselect this every time. I have an ASI2600 duo but done use the guide sensor with my EdgeHD8 - instead I use another guide camera.

I see several posts in forum asking this for 2 years and still no updates? I really need to dither without the need for a guide cam. How can this be achieved in AsiAir without guide cam?

Unguided dithering in both Live Mode (Live Stacking) and Autorun/Plan Mode is something I really hope is possible with the ASIAIR hardware (Plus 32GB and 256GB at least if not the Mini and the Pro as well).

For Live Stacking I know SharpCap does it.

But I guess SharpCap and NINA run on computer grade hardware.

It would be great if @PMTeam@ZWO @Tech@ZWO could explore if it was possible, though.

661Xmjpz quite frankly if you're not guiding your setup is probably not high enough quality anyways and without guiding you are going to have star movement over the course of your imaging session which will be near equivalent to dither. Unless you are imaging on a $10k astrophysics or paramount level mount, it's unlikely you'll be doing unguided images with zero star movement from frame to frame.

Eric Yes, my setup is not high quality. Just an achromatic refractor and 585mc pro with uv/ir cut filter. I am looking to image under 10-30s exposures with a very good polar alignment and for that guiding is absolutely not needed. Guiding should be needed for people who go in minutes.
