I’m surprised this hasn’t been raised before - with a truly remote telescope you also need controls for a dome (open, close, rotate) or roof (open/close), cloud sensor or rain sensors to automatically close the dome/roof, and controls to open/close a shutter over the front of the scope

ASIAir does not have an interface for.any of these.

You also need a webcam (all-sky) camera.

Without these “remote” is only going to be at the end of the garden path.

Totally agree if you have to control all aspects of the remote dome.

I have my ASIAIR running my 9.25’ EdgeHD remotely at Starfront in Nowhere Texas. (Along with about 100 other scopes with ASIAIRs). (out of 600 scopes total.) Starfront controls roof opening and reaction to changing conditions. The two features I miss that NINA users have is ability to remember the remote time zone (an annoyance) and auto shutdown from the observatory signal that roof has been closed. (Not a big problem, I just get a mosaic of of images of the bottom of the roof!)

Hi. I have been trying both beta 2.6 and 3.0. I have found that both struggles to plate solve much more than previous iterations. I have had this issue both at 300, 400, 700 and 2700 mm. Even with the stars perfectly in focus, it takes a lot to solve or sometimes just fails. Same is happening with v 3.0 but with the already captured images. It shows a message saying that is trying to solve the image but it takes a lot or just fail too when pressing the "GoTo" option . I have been able to solve these exact same images almost instantaneously in previous versions. Another issue I have found in beta 3.0 is that when I shut down the ASIAir ( both Mini and Plus ) the power keeps running the camera and the usual closing sound doesn't sound at all.

minimoto71 Hi, Compared with previous versions, we haven’t made any changes to the Plate Solve feature in either v2.6 or v3.0.

If you notice that plate solving is taking significantly longer than expected, please submit a Bug Report through the app while the issue is occurring. The logs collected at that time will help us investigate the cause.

Regarding the issue where the device could not be powered off, we’ve already fixed it. Please use the download link in this post to download the latest version and try again.

I have been using the 3.0 (7) beta for a couple of nights with my iOS device. I am having difficulty with my USB stick. It worked on 2.6 beta but is not recognizing now. I have moved it to a different port and also just reformatted on my Mac using efat (I believe- the compatible format). It is still not recognizing it. It the light is showing on the usb stick. Any ideas?

just as an fyi - I am using the v3.0 app and associated f/w on my 2600MC Air with a Scandisk USB 3.0 microsd adapter and a Scandisk 256gb microsd card and the Air detects the micro sd card when present in its USB ports

I have also used a Lexar D40E USB 3.2 thumb drive with the Air and it also works... YMMV

Regarding your Flash Drive, you may want to simply repair it and then see if that helps your issue. If you have a PC this is pretty straightforward to do, you can find countless YouTube that have how to's. If you happen to be a Mac user, then again you can likely find how to's on YouTube.

I've found that Flash Drives benefit from doing periodic repairs, I do mine about 1x per month or so. I also keep a spare Flash Drive in my AP toolbox just in case my current Flash Drive fails. Nothing like going to all the trouble of setting up equipment and your system to have a failed Flash Drive ruin the night. I also keep spare power cables and USB cables handy for the same reason.

I wonder what the issue could be then . I get no option to reformat it nor does it beep when I insert it in the ASI Air Plus. It works fine on both Mac and windows.

chrisrose98 have you tried a different USB stick in the Air???

I'd find a stick that works on the AIR then try to figure out what's different... I doubt its h/w related if you have verified that the USB ports work with other devices ... so its likely driver related ... perhaps revert the AIR to a known working
version and test again?

Maybe it is this particular drive but I took it out of this ASIAIR and plugged it into another ASIAIR plus running 2.5.2 (reverting to 2.6 of the app) and it saw it right away. I even formatted it one more time on that device and when attempting again on the one running the firmware that was compatible with the 3.0(7) firmware it would not see it. I swapped it to other ports and still no change.

chrisrose98 sounds like a driver issue with the latest firmware - you should log a bug and include the model info of the failing USB stick ... good luck!

p.s try a different thumb drive!

chrisrose98 good luck - keep us posted, I hope its either a driver issue or the stick is somehow incompatible, but I think its the former ... you could revert the f/w back to 2.5.2 compatible and try that?

Larry.Cable A new updated was released to test flight and it resolved the issue with my USB stick. It is recognized again.

Hello,

I recently updated my ASIAIR Mini to version 3.0 because I expected SkyAtlas to provide better visibility of dark nebulae. Unfortunately, I have not noticed any improvement.

I actually preferred version 2.5.2, which I found more stable and easier to use. I tried to downgrade to version 2.5.2, but it seems impossible, probably because the ASIAIR Mini firmware was also updated.

Is there any official way to downgrade both the firmware and the app back to version 2.5.2, or is this no longer possible?

I would also like to suggest improving the display of dark nebulae (Barnard, LDN, etc.) in SkyAtlas. This would be a valuable enhancement for astrophotographers who image these objects.

FERNANDEZ We apologize for the unpleasant experience you've had. Since ASIAIR v3.0 includes a comprehensive firmware overhaul, if you want to roll back to an older app version after upgrading to v3.0, you must first reset the firmware to its factory default build within v3.0, then download the official app from the App Store.

The procedure to roll back to any release version (including 2.5.2) is detailed in the “Missing Manual”

The ASI2600MC Air doesn’t shutdown completely (Plan Mode and manual by slider). The App itself seem to shut down but the Camera itself stays on. (Fan and Power Ports still operating).
I don’t know if this is default behavior or caused by the Beta OS but this makes automatic shutdown pointless.

SFokOovu I noticed this also - but I think its the default behavior, but I could be wrong!

AFIAK when you attach power (initially) this is also the behavior ... and I observed this prior to upgrading f/w for 3.0

I suspect that when the app "turns off" the effect is to shutdown the internal compute module in the MC Air but not
the other "dumb" power sinks

So I again suspect that the MC Air does not have a soft switch as the standalone units do ... YMMV

Could you also share a screenshot of the capture page so I can confirm whether you have the latest test version installed? We’ve rolled out fixes for the issue you reported recently, but we aren’t certain if it’s completely resolved. You may also download the newest test build via the link in this thread to check if the problem persists.

Larry.Cable I really hope it is fixable cause at the moment, this makes more advanced automation via the DC ports impossible. These ports still can't be controlled on the smart cameras, unlike on other Asiair models.

If you used a 12V output on ASIAir to operate a 12V relay you could use the relay to switch power to the camera, heaters, mount. You could also operate motor contactors to open/close a roll-off roof in the same way.

The only proviso is leaving ASIAir running, which at 0.3A is not unreasonable.

Luxo Sure! For Observatories it’s out of question. But I had a nearly fully automated rig based on Asiair and it seems the Air Cameras are behind the functionality of the Standalone Asiar in several points. That wasn’t clearly communicated by ZWO and it is an bummer and a step backwards imho but that is another topic.
