Editing/removing entries in ASiair 2 My Favorites

Hi there,

I've added a couple of items to my ASiair Plus 'My Favorites' menu. Once entered, there doesn't seem to be a way to edit them or delete them. What am I missing? For example, if I should make a mistake and enter an item with J2000 coordinates, I cannot fix this or delete the entry to try again. Selecting the entry just displays the GoTo button.

Not missing anything, Paul.

The My Favorites targets have been crippled that way since the beginning. Notice that My Favorites also does not accept Alt-Azimuth coordinates, which would have been useful to place the OTA in a position that is most favorable for changing filters, leveling the mount, setting a custom park position, focusing on a terrestrial object, etc.

The only way I know how to do what you want is to delete the existing target and add it back from scratch. Been there, done that, unfortunately.

Hold and swipe the target to the left side of the My Favorites window exposes the Delete button on iOS/iPadOS.

Chen, thanks for your reply which confirms my suspicions. I hadn't thought of your Alt-Az use - that would help me greatly as I regularly want to put the 'scope in a vertical position so that I can do flats. BTW, how do you delete an entry?

Now, a rant:
ZWO - come on!!? When you offer the facilty to a user of adding custom data/info, it is a priori that such facility needs both editing and deleting functions. Surely such function is simple to do. You offer it in the Autorun and Plan facilities already. How about making this application up there with the best of them?

Paul, as mentioned in my earlier reply to you... if you are using iPadOS or iOS, hold down your finger on the target item in question (in the graph region) and swipe your finger towards the left edge of the window (this is how macOS contextual menus -- right mouse button down -- are implemented in iOS/iPadOS).

In the case of My Favorites, the contextual menu consists of two buttons (on the right side of the target item). One is Add to (that allows to you move a target to one of the other Categories -- like Focus Stars, for example). The other is a Delete button, to remove that Target completely.

Pretty standard GUI element in iOS/iPadOS that you find with other apps too. You might be familiar with it in the iOS Music app, for example.

How about making this application up there with the best of them?

ASIAIR will never be one of the best out there. You need open sourced environments for that, where people knowledgable in astronomy, image processing, celestial navigation, good computer engineering and documentation, can collaborate. Not to mention being able to support more than one company's products. At best, ASIAIR will be easy to use, as long as you don't ask for something that is not brain-damagingly basic (like your need to edit a target's coordinates), and not needing to use devices that compete with ZWO's offerings.

Sorry, Chen, I was looking at your response on a small screen and didn't see your instructions re deleting an entry. As I'm using an Android tablet & PC+BluStacks to run the app, I'll have to test your method when next I have the ASiair connected to my mount as there doesn't seem to be a method of getting to the GoTo menus without this connection.

Sadly, I think you are probably right in your last comments, Chen. I guess that's what you have to accept at this price point. Still, others (Pixinsight comes to mind) seem to be doing very well with an open sourced environments and much the same price. What about it, ZWO?

Well, it's raining and I got the 'scope in under cover just in time - it was a clear sky when I started setting up!! :-(( So I decided to look at this My Favorites issue a bit more, and found on my Android tablet:

Chen, your hold-and-swipe method doesn't work on my Android tablet.
Hold for about 3-5 secs brings up a menu offering 'Delete' and 'Add to'. Delete does what it says, but the Add to option is the interesting one...
Selecting the 'Add to' option brings up an 'Add to Category' menu showing 'My Favorites' and 'Create New Category'. Again it's the 2nd option that is the interesting one.
'Create New Category' allows you to enter the name of a category list that is appended to the end of the suite of lists offered. When you opt to 'Add to Category' and select one of your custom ones, it will appear in that list, but still remains in the current list. You need to delete it if you want it to appear just in the custom menu you selected.

This is helpful to me. I now have a list of stars that I want to check out for centre of field of Orion targets with differing fov's. But I'd still want to be able to edit these custom targets (and the name of the custom categories).

I hope this helps others. ZWO are starting to get there...maybe, one day!!?

Hi, I have problems with this version (2.1.5), since yesterday I tried to add several objects to the favorites list and then when I tried to log in to see them, the application resets and exits, having to log in again. Two questions: 1) why does this happen 2) How do I delete the favorites from that menu since the rest of the application seems to run without problems?
