Kevin_A Good to know that more weight handled by the AM5 may help.
Last night was a good night to do some testing, the sky was clear and no wind.
I tried to add more data to the elephant trunk nebula which is not that far from Polaris, and I've got guiding numbers in the range that I said before, but was still getting some guiding spikes on both RA and DEC but more on RA.
For testing, I've move toward the celestrial equator and I've erased and did another guiding calibration. Imaging from that area was really bad and I was guiding arround 1.25 with alot of spikes.
I also added rubber feets to put on the zwo cabon fiber tripod, but next time I will try adding a counter weight and see if it can help a bit.
I'm also using the asiair plus, but I'm thinking of testing NINA and phd2 and see if it can improve my guiding.
The equipment I'm using is listed below.
Tested new AM5 guiding settings , I've got lucky once getting like .35 total guiding error when i received my AM5 this last winter, but since i never been able to reach that guiding level ! ???
Calibration Steps 1200
Max DEC duration 300 higher numbers above 1000 was giving worst results
Max RA duration 300. (Same here)
Guiding at 1 sec with the above numbers was giving guiding numbers between 0.5 to .75 sometimes going higher like 0.85. when imaging close to Polaris area
