sea_change ZWO, nine months have passed since many users suggested this idea, any update? Yes, no, yes but don't hold your breath, anything? The ask was to add an equatorial mode where the user would place the S50 on a wedge with inclination equal to 90 degrees minus latitude and pointing north. This would reduce field rotation by at least an order of magnitude, even without perfect polar alignment. Apart from the issue of increased wear on the S50 gears, on which ZWO never gave a final answer, this is purely a software change. You can fake equatorial mode right now if you want by forcing the SeeStar app to think the S50 is located at the North pole which is annoying but possible, but you are unable to point it to targets below the "new" fake horizon, which would not be visible from the North pole but are perfectly visible from your current location. So you can sort of fake it but it doesn't really work that well. I would rather have ZWO implement a feature in software making operating the S50 with an equatorial wedge possible.
I am asking about this right now because Dwarf 3 seems to support it and I just ordered one, I expect to get it in a few weeks and I plan to use both telescopes side by side and compare features and results. By the way, the Dwarf 3 is supposed to have mosaic mode, scheduling and many other features we have been asking here for months. Maybe the pressure of real competition would make ZWO finally do something about all these requests.
