Without using the EFW, there is no way to include the filter in the fits header of the images. It should be easy to create a "dummy" EFW that one can pick filters from when using a filter drawer (for example). Would be my #1 missing feature!

HEX changed the title to Feature Request -- Add Filter Name to FITS Header.

Tech@ZWO Excellent news! Hopefully you're also adding it to the filename as well as the FITS header, so we can manage files by filter. This is one of the biggest limitations I've encountered with ASIAir. I only need a manual filter drawer on this rig because I'm only using a couple filters.

mountainair My apologies, I misunderstood your demand before, we plan to add the filter name to the file name when do not using EFW, but do not have a plan to add it to the fits header yet.

      Sorry for the confuse.

      Thanks for the quick response!

Does ASIAir store the filter to the FITS header when an EFW is used? If so, why wouldn't this same functionality simply be replicated for the manual filter change?

Saving the filter in both the filename and the fits header are important. The filename allows us to manage the files in the filesystem, and the filter in the FITS header is important because that's how stacking software like PixInsight, AstroPixelProcessor, etc. know that a sub was taken with a particular filter (otherwise this filter association must be done manually, and it can be confusing across many filters especially for newcomers to the hobby, who the ASIAir specifically targets).

      a year later

      Hi guys,
I have 2 mono ZWO cameras and always frustrated when i process the images because the ASI Img software does not record the filter in the image FITS header.
I see from this and other posts that the ASI Img software will be changed to record the filter in the FITS header.
I'm very interested when this will be done.

      Can you please update us?
I love using theZWO product range, but really disappointed that such a basic record of filters used when imaging is still missing after years of using ZWO products.

      Thanks all

Yup this has been requested many times now over the past years and despite promises it still is not part of the software. Please please please make this a priority!!!
