Yeah, lab bench supplies have good regulation and low noise.
Power bricks are a crap shoot. Like the one you used earlier that can't even hold regulation. For low power (3A), I like to use the "medical" power supplies. Again, good regulation and really low noise (and "medical" ones have good isolation from the power line). I just measured the noise of this one (not available on Amazon, of course; you need to go to real electronics distributors like Mouser ot DigiKey :-) and it shows less than 5 mV RMS AC noise (most bench supplies don't come anywhere close -- even the one I use for my telescope setup [PowerWerx] is rated at < 100mV p-p [35 mV RMS] noise). The noisy power supplies that some people use to feed their sensitive cameras is just sad.
They make higher powered bricks and much higher powered wall mounted ones for hospitals.
