Like Tomzo I cannot connect my CEM60 to Asiair due to the firmware update. Please indicate how I can revert to an earlier firmware version, or fix V 2.3.

I have been in contact with iOptron throughout and today I got this email from one of their support techs:

"We received reports from 3 different customers in a week, all with the same issue; the mount worked well but suddenly encountered connection issue. It should be very easy to confirm the origin of the issue: revert to the previous ASIAIR firmware."

So it seems that I am not on an island with this issue anymore. My replacement ASIAR PLUS 256GB will arrive in a few days so I will also need to know how to revert the firmware to a version that works. Perhaps an update is forthcoming instead (he said hopefully)?

I got my replacement ASIAIR Plus 256GB today and it had the same problem as the previous one. I saw an option to revert the firmware to a previous version and performed that operation successfully. However, once the earlier version was installed, the ASIAIR app would push me to the update page to install the newer firmware. I could not find any way to allow the device to run on the previous firmware.

Is there a way to revert to the earlier firmware and run it from there? I would like to test that firmware out but it seems the system requires the most recent firmware or it won't let you do anything with it.

This is super frustrating.

Tom

Update - as part of my troubleshooting I wondered if the iOS version behaved differently than Android, so I borrowed an Android tablet that serves as my DRO on my lathe and installed the ASIAIR app on it. Lo and behold it connects to the mount just fine! So, these are my findings:

  • Mount connects to computer using serial to USB
  • Mount connects to computer using iOptron StarFi
  • Mount connects to ASIAIR using Android device
  • Mount won't connect to ASIAIR using iOS device

I think I know where the problem lies....now I just need ZWO to update their iOS app.

tomzo Are you sure that the aaiair versions on iOS and Android were the same?

tomzo Hello. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We need to confirm some information with you. What version of Android are you using, is it 2.3? Have you tried it on 2.2.2 of iOS?

I am V2.3 on iOS. How would I install V2.2.2?

I am also on V2.3 on Android

tomzo Hello. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We are very concerned about this issue. If it is convenient, please upload a bug report to us after successfully connecting to CEM60 with an Android device. We need to compare the logs of Android and iOS. Thank you for your help.

I just uploaded a bug report from my Android device after successful connection. The connection was made over wifi to the iOptron StarFi wifi adapter.

tomzo Hello. Our developers have analysis your log and hope to communicate with you further via email. Is it convenient for you?

Hi Zwo team, exact same issue here.
Using my iphone with Tesflight latest version 2.3 (50), CEM60 and ASIAIR are not able to connect. More precisely, the mount connects and then immediately disconnects. I tried 2 different cables with no avail. I have sent a screenshot through Testflight and a bug report through the App.
Edit 1: Now just tried with my iPad that has a 2.2 (11.56) version. And it works perfectly well.
Edit 2: Just checked with the optional “new plate solve” unchecked (off) and it connects properly (sometimes, I have to try to connect twice though). When I check again this option (on) while the mount is connected, the mount remains connected. But if I disconnect voluntarily the mount, then check again the option (on) and try to reconnect. Then bingo ! Disconnection.
This does not happen with version 2.2 on my iPad. With “new plate solve” on or off, the mount keeps connected.

FYI - another user on Cloudy Nights indicated that he cannot connect with iOS V2.3. He had another iPad that had not been updated (V2.2) and it connects fine. Just another data point for you.

Greetings I’m having this issue too. It’s only started after the recent updates. It actually tried to connect the mount (CEM60) but boots off with the error message to check cable or network connection. Please push an update for the app or let us know how we can roll back a version. I’m using IOS mobile device.

          Thank you.

          Mirko

While I empathize with others having this same problem, after weeks of seemingly being the only one who had the issue it is nice to see that I am not alone. Adding more voices here will certainly help move this problem up the list for an eventual fix in the iOS software.

The work around I got for it is that I’m using an android emulator (bluestacks) running ASIAIR on my PC laptop and connect to it via IP address. This seems to work.

That is quite a workaround @mirkom - though having to use a PC to control the system seems to defeat the purpose of the ASIAIR. Come on ZWO - get a patch out!

Asiair has a new firmware, for the time being only available on TestFlight. I tested it and it works fine.

It seems I will need a redeem code to get access to this - where did you get this redeem code?
