altair60 if you think of anything else I might have missed please let me know...
I had declined a free third generation ASIAIR from ZWO back a couple of months ago, just because I don't want to waste my time doing QA for them.
But it looks like all the reported problems so far are power and connection problems (or power sequencing problems, which I can program an ARM processor to perform), so I ordered the third generation ASIAIR from CloudBreak last night, and it should arrive tomorrow (I am just one state away from Seattle).
(I need an extra ASIAIR/Raspberry Pi to build another permanent all-sky camera -- this time with an ASI294 and a Samyang 12mm lens; my current all sky camera uses the first generation ASIAIR with an ASI178 and a C mount 3.2mm lens.)
When it arrives, I'll see if I can find any problem with camera connections with the third generation ASIAIR. I have some Peltier cooled ASI178, 071, 2600 (both mono and color) and 6200 that I can test with.
That being said, my plan is to use a 50 ohm terminator on the 3rd gen ASIAIR's SMA antenna port and continue to use direct Ethernet connection to an eero mesh router. An Amphenol SMA terminator is already on its way to me. For anyone else reading: never power the ASIAIR on with the antenna port either disconnected or shorted, or even slightly loose. The VSWR may become bad enough to burn out the WiFi chip. Hence the 50 ohm SMA terminator is needed if you don't want to use WiFi.
But I can try the 3rd gen ASIAIR with WiFi too, to see if I can see the problems that you are encountering.
