Weird Goings on...

I have noticed some weird happenings lately with my ASIAIR Plus autoguiding my Ioptron CEM70EC2 mount. I have also stumbled upon some other similar posts from others about this, but there seems not to be a solution. Anyway I have uploaded my Log to show up the weird goings on.. Check out the Log 12 ,23:16:16 which runs from 11.18pm to 1.15am and you can see my DEC axis is going up and down like a yoyo. RA looks ok but DEC is crazy!....but RMS is 0.86"...???
When I look at my single exposures taken during this time period I see that the stars are perfectly round. That is the weird bit.
Also look at Log 13 which also shows more crazy goings on. Again my pics taken during that time period also have perfectly round stars again.

Is this an ASIAIR/Ioptron thing as I have read similar posts? Can I trust the guiding from the ASIAIR? Is this something that ZWO needs to fix but probably wont? So many questions but no answers..

SFn8CieR I do wonder if this has to do with the encoders and whether its a case of the encoders are actually doing what they are meant to be doing - it's just the ASIAIR doesn't (for whatever reason) properly interpret what the encoders are doing (hence the odd guiding numbers on the ASIAIR).

Thanks for your response. How can I get this Bug Report if I am not guiding right now. Do you have to be guiding to get this report or is it stored somewhere?

SFn8CieR If you properly shut down ASIAIR through the software, the logs will be preserved. Please upload these logs so our developers can analyze them. Additionally, for future guiding sessions, if you encounter similar issues, uploading the logs immediately will greatly help us in addressing the problem more effectively. OK I will take a look when I get a chance, but most of the time I get the log but is it the same as the bug report you refer to? I have the guide logs in text form and also the phd2 graphs. Are these what you are referring to?

Hi, Is this the log you are referring to? Please look it over and see if you can work out why I had such weird guide graphs. Somehow I really think it is the asiair that is giving incorrect graphs and guiding figures as I cannot see any problems with the round stars in the images, yet the guiding graphs say otherwise. thanks..

No I dont think it has to do with the encoders. I have had many successful nights guiding in the past with the same mount. This is something recent that I have noticed where the DEC goes haywire for some reason, but not all the time. Maybe its a firmware upgrade or something, dont really know.

Hello, we have carefully checked your log. Based on experience, we have the following suggestions:
1 Check whether the clutch of Mount DEC is normal
2 Check whether the rigidity of the guide scope, the guide camera, and each connecting part is normal? Is there a slight shake when under force?
3 It is recommended to set RA/DEC duration to 1000 1000 first, adjust RA/DEC Aggr to 50%, and then gradually adjust according to the guide curve after starting the guide.

Hi, but this does not address the fact that the stars are perfectly round. I have previously checked the mechanics of the mount and guide scope and everything is very good. I really think this is an asiair issue..

When I try to upload the fits file it will not upload.
I think the file is too big, taken with a full frame camera. 46.8Mb
Is there another way to do this?

I have tried to email but the file is too big. I dont have dropbox or cloud or anything like that. Will a jpg version of the file be adequate? I tried to upload it but its too big as well.

SFn8CieR Just curious - who do you use for email? Gmail? Hotmail?

If you use Gmail then you already have a Google Drive account with which you can upload and share files.

If you use Hotmail then you already have a One Drive account with which you can upload and share files.

I have a yahoo account and their limit is 25Mb. My file is 26.4Mb and that is a jpeg. I will reduce its size in Paint and email it . Maybe that will work?

I will email it to you. It is a jpg file but you can see that the stars are round. Time of photo is 21.35 on 20240803 which matches the glitches in my phd log graph and shows that the 5 min exposure the stars are round and do not show signs of the DEC glitches. I think it is the asiair that is displaying the incorrect information. I also have noticed over many nights now that the guiding is initially quite good at around 0.6, 0.7 rms and after a while it gets worse going up to 2 rms, but when I clear the guiding graph and watch the numbers, it stays at around 0.6, 0.7 again for a while then creeps up again, and so I clear the graph again and so on. There must be a cumulative error in the aisiair for the ioptron mounts, as I have read that others are having the same issues. Please advise.
