PMTeam@ZWO Sure. Next clear night. Tonight I had 2 downloads stall. My session was interrupted when sequence stopped on 'loading'. Logs were sent. Tonight I could restart by pausing the session and starting again. Frustrating because I have to pay close attention to the screen to know when this issue takes place. Otherwise the session will just stop with no error codes and no subframes downloaded.

Hello. I have also noticed that PA can take a long time when a filter is used during the PA alignment (especially if it is a narrowband or narrow multi-band filter of 10nm or smaller).
Without any filter, I can use 1 - 3 second exposure time for PA. But with a narrowband filter, I sometimes need to increase PA exposure to 10s or 20s in order to find enough stars for plate solve to complete.
So I think the recommendation for users should be to avoid using a narrowband filter during PA, especially with a slow scope of f/8 or slower.

gregg_zwo Why on earth you would like to use filter while polar alignment? What is not necessary or is detrimental, should not be used if you want best possible accuracy is rule in almost everything. Filter cuts good part of light away and affects on how stars are formed in sensor.

Hello. As I mentioned to PMTeam@ZWO, it is better to avoid using a filter during Polar Alignment (except for perhaps a UV/IR filter or other wideband filter). Narrowband filters can really cause higher requirements for the PA exposure time, especially on slower scopes above f/6.

You had mentioned using a HaOIII filter on your setup. Not sure if you are using that during PA, but my suggestion would be to try PA without any filter, and then swap in the HaOIII filter after PA is completed, using either filter drawer or filter wheel.

gregg_zwo Polar Alignment worked fine with filters before this latest update. They work fine when I use all sky alignment, so I doubt it is the filters. This started immediately after the latest software update. So my conclusion is it is software.

Regarding the corrupted sessions, I would definitely recommend trying separate power for the mount, as several others have suggested.
It's an easy thing to try out and see if it fixes the problems.

I've been running separate power for mount and ASIAir for over a year and have not had any problems. I use a 3A supply for my AM5 mount, and a 5A supply for the ASIAir Plus which powers the camera, dew heater, filter wheel and focuser.

gregg_zwo I'm happy to try it but doubt it is the solution. About 1 out of 100 subs get corrupted. It's very intermittent. I would think a power problem would show up much more frequently.

Regarding the PA problems, I can't speak for the v2.3 Beta software, since I am still running the official v2.2.2 release from the App Store. I suppose it's possible some problem could have been introduced in the Beta.
However, I have had problems doing PA with all of the software releases for over a year, when using a narrowband HaOIII filter. The problem is especially noticeable on my f/10 reflector with long focal length. The same problem also occurs on GOTO when I have auto-centering enabled on the ASIAir, since that requires another plate solve.
When I removed the filter during PA and GOTO, then all the problems went away.

So these days I make sure I am using either no filter or just a wideband UV/IR cut filter during PA and GOTO, and then I swap in the appropriate narrowband filter (for nebula) during stacking.

gregg_zwo Polar Align and plate solves worked on the 2.2.2 software. They don't seem to work on 2.3 beta. Others have reported this as well.

Hara Because it has worked fine in previous versions of the software. I focus first with the NB filter, before doing a Polar Align. If I pulled the filter I would have to refocus after PA. I'm using wide field, fast optics, and tracking is excellent.

Hara Because there are telescopes in which you need to screw in the filter and then screw on the camera. Doing a polar alignment without the filter, shutting everything down, removing the camera, screwing in the filter, and finally screwing back on the camera may, and in many cases will, screw up (pun intended) polar alignment.

What ever. If you want to do against laws of physics and make your optical path worse than optimal and meet difficulties, it is then your own problem.

Hara Not a useful response. It doesn't polar align with no filter either. It's a software issue, introduced in the latest version. And it does a fine polar align using the all sky method. Doesn't sound like the filter does it? Don't blame the messenger.
