OK, I said I was done with this beta, but I was going to be packing up for the night and thought I'd try the latest 2.4 beta that released just yesterday. I don't know what was addressed (release notes, anyone?), but I cannot stress enough how much I dislike the new object list! It's terrible. It looks clunky and dated, the FOV filter is horribly broken, the thumbnails are tiny, and it doesn't seem to have a filter to show you just what is up now if you have limited time & don't have a specific plan! That last one may not be in 2.3.3 either, but its default display list makes more sense, whatever it is.
Now for other issues. In live mode, the auto histogram is wildly inconsistent from image to image as it stacks. One moment it will be bright & clean, the next image it looks like you've taken only one, then the next it's pasty and over processed. I like live mode because it's fun to see how things are progressing even if you don't use that as your last & final. In 2.3.3, it behaves consistently.
The autofocus in live mode will end your current capture as soon as a parameter triggers. There were about 20s left in a 120s capture tonight and it threw it away and started focusing because the temperature had changed enough. At least let the current image finish before throwing all that data in the garbage!
In 2.3.3, I find the Wifi very stable and reliable. I use only station mode even in the mountains--I set the hotspot on my phone to match my home network so the ASIAir and my tablet can still communicate. In 2.4, there were immediate wireless problems and random reconnects.
Upside--2.4 seems to download the next image to stack in live mode pretty quickly as compared to 2.3.3. That's about all I like about it given the issues. I sure hope you folks read all of this feedback before you release the final version!
